How Your Life! Magazine jumped from a one-woman show
to a stage for national experts
Louisville, KY (October, 2004)- Barely one month after its launch, Your Life!, a free online magazine for women, has become the gathering place for some of nation's leading female experts. Perhaps the attraction to Your Life! in the first place was its look of being a "real magazine, not just another web site. Or, perhaps these experts knew that Your Life! was not going to be another fluffy magazine with no real substance.
"Single in the City star, Kathleen Giordano is one of these experts. She will be what the magazine refers to as an "Advisor". Relationships are her forte.
Kathleen, who is also a professional barber, was crowned "Lady Barber by the Wall Street Journal because of her famous hair cutting services. From Hollywood to New York, Ms. Giordano brings the barber shop to busy executives, cutting their hair right in their offices. From her years of talking with men during haircuts, Kathleen has learned how men think, feel, and what they want.
"I am not only thrilled but honored to be a part of the wonderful network for women that is provided by Your Life! Magazine", says Kathleen. "Your Life! Magazine and Lady Barber are truly a great fit!
Psychiatrist Dr. Judith Orloff will be the Advisor for the Self section. Author of several best selling books such as, Second Sight, Intuitive Healing, and most recently, Positive Energy; she has received rave reviews by everyone from Pamela Anderson to Deepak Chopra.
"Recovering your positive energy is about slowing down time to match your natural rhythms to be fully present for your life. We all deserve such joy! Says Dr. Orloff. Readers of Your Life! will be privy to articles or columns from Dr. Orloff every month.
An atypical department for a woman's magazine is an entire Auto department. Advising this section is none other than Lauren Fix, the top female auto expert in the nation.
"I'm happy to be able to educate the readers to be more Car Care Aware", says Lauren. As a nationally recognized premier automotive expert, Lauren Fix, is an authority on consumer automotive and safety issues as well as car care and repair. She is also the co-host of Talk 2 DIY-Automotive and is an automotive expert on the Do-It-Yourself Network (DIY), that focuses on the do-it-yourself enthusiast, providing in-depth demonstrations and tips for auto repair, which is seen by over 22 million homes across the United States.
Another unusual category for a women's magazine is Maintenance. As the author of two best sellers, From Sand Castles to Dream Houses, and House About It, Sheri Kooneswill be the featured Advisor for this department. Sheri will help women learn how they can handle various house repairs themselves. She is currently doing research for her third book, also dealing with construction.
Of course, no woman's magazine would be complete without discussion of children. Heading up the Children's section is Katie Bassit, former school teacher and inventor of the B.I.T.s Kit ?, a groundbreaking behavioral modification tool for parents and professionals working with children aged 4 to 9. Despite heading a "typically female category, she was attracted to Your Life! because of its unusual angle.
"Your Life! Magazine is a great resource for women who want to live their lives to the fullest, and who are tired of trying to fit into a mold prescribed for them by most women's magazines. I'm proud to have a role in such an affirming magazine, Katie says.
And finally, former Oxygen Media Network career transitions expert, Nancy Collamer, will be the Advisor for the Career department. In addition to authoring three electronic books, The Layoff Survival Guide, FlexJobs, and Howto Craft a Winning Home-Based Business, Nancy manages a web site where she coaches women on various career issues. Since founding Jobs and Moms.com, Nancy has proved to be an invaluable resource for not only her clients, but for readers of Your Life! magazine.
Pamela La Gioia, founder and editor of Your Life! says she owes this immediate success of her magazine to these experts who have volunteered their time and material to helping her create this one-of-a-kind magazine.
"I knew I wanted to create a magazine that wasn't full of 'How to be Skinny' content, or 'This actress married that actor' news. The whole purpose of Your Life! is to provide information that will help women love their lives, just as they are.
"These women all think along the same line, continues Pamela. "They are all about empowering women to live their lives-not someone else's."
"But, of course, adds Pamela, "I'd never have met any of them had it not been for Betty Yarmon, publisher of Partyline Publishing. Betty's publication is the glue that sticks everyone in media together."
