Do you know the old adage, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all"? Well, that's our second guideline for writers. The first guideline is to be honest and realistic. Write about what's real.
Your Life! Magazine is about telling women like it is, talking about things other magazines might brush aside as unimportant. We talk to our readers about topics that aren't necessarily "hot news" or "popular issues". However, they are still issues thought about by millions of women.
What should you write about? That's up to you. But say it honestly, tactfully, and without beating around the bush.
If you write about parenting, try to make your information as universal to parents as possible. Home schooling is not a universal issue. However, fighting children is.
If you write about beauty, please don't tell women how they should look. Don't talk about losing weight, as this magazine does not feel that one's weight is a beauty issue. Help women work with who they are and what they've got. Show them how to find the beauty they already possess.
If you write about careers, don't talk write about pre-fab home-based-businesses (such as Tupperware, Avon, etc.) Write about issues such as balancing personal/family time with careers, for example.
If you write about relationships, don't limit yourself to simply discussing communication topics. Sexual pleasure is also a relationship issue.
If you write about friendship, talk about issues within friendships, not just about how to make or be a friend. Discuss things that friends experience within the course of a friendship, such as resentment, lying, etc.
If you write about home, remember that there's more to a home than food. Some women aren't interested in cooking, but are interested in decorating or organizing.
If your write about shopping, think about sharing something unique, such as where to find an unusual product. Or, help women save money. Remember, we all want to save money--and look good while we do it!
If you write about self, don't worry about being self-centered. That's what this is about! It's about you/me; how can I make myself feel better? How can I rejuvenate myself? Forget the house, the kids, the hubby, work, and the rest of the world. This is about what I can do to feel better about you and your life.
If you write about health, and you're an expert about something, that's great! Remember that mental health is just as important as physical health.
If you write about money, keep in mind that not everyone has a lot of it. Help readers save money, manage it better, and keep themselves safe from being ripped off.
As time goes on, more departments will be added. Feel free to submit your ideas.
Other submission interests we have are "fillers": itemized lists, tips, jokes, quick ideas, pictures, cartoons, and other short snippets. Just remember our content guidelines before sending them in.
To submit articles or fillers, please send them to: editor@yourlifemagazine.com. (At the present time, all submissions are unpaid, and writers are welcome to submit them simultaneously to other publications.) At present, we are not interested in Fiction, Autobiographies/biographies, etc.
Note: We are no longer accepting submissions that are over 350 words. We have our own writers/sources for longer content.
